If you have at least 5 symptoms that last more than two weeks, see a doctor or counselor.
Christians are not immune to depression and taking medication is sometimes necessary. When chastised for having weak faith, Chonda quipped, “Why don’t you take off your glasses and drive home?”
If someone you love suffers with depression, don’t try to fix them, just be with them, support them and pray for them. Don’t be a know-it-all like Job’s friends.
Chonda had two friends who were her “Martha” – get things done, and her “Mary” – just let me cry with you. One of her friends read the Psalms out loud to her as part of her healing. David, along with Elijah and Job, understood despair.
Psalm 42 is David’s lament. “Why are you downcast, O my soul?”
