A 90 day devotional which incorporates Old Testament and New Testament stories with empowering life-application.
This doable daily devotional includes “He speaks to me” space as an invitation to journal.
“As the years pass…there is hidden treasure in…rest, silence, joy of an ordinary day..more interest in internal matters.”
DIG IN AND DO BUSINESS
We need to go beyond surface reading of the Bible and dig in and find depth. We need to do business with it. Talk about what scripture means to you and pray scriptures. God listens in to our conversations when we are talking about Him.
“Then those who feared the Lord spoke to one another and the Lord gave attention and heard it…” Malachi 3:16
We must know the holiness of God and understand who He is and who we are by having a full understanding of the Bible. Picking a verse here and there will not reveal the whole character of God. We must know the Bible and do business with it.
START THE DAY
Like gathering manna, we start the day with God to infuse ourselves with His grace. Otherwise our spirit deflates as the day wears on. I wouldn’t begin the day without coffee, so I developed a habit of meeting God at the coffee pot, which changed my life.
Elisha asked the widow, “What do you have?” instead of focusing on what she didn’t have. Give what you have, even from a place of deficiency whether it is money, time or emotion. Don’t have a scarcity mentality because God called you to abundance.
REST IN THE LORD
Freedom is available, but like a circus pony that only knows to keep walking in a circle, we remain in sin, addiction, unforgiveness and bitterness. We are eagles made to soar, not chickens pecking around for everything we can get. So rest in the Lord.
Sometimes finishing well means stepping aside and releasing control or passing the baton. “Not everything is yours to finish.” Honestly, not everything is yours to start. Keep your eyes fixed on the author and perfecter of your faith to discern what you are called to do.
“Abundant living mandates different living.”
WE ARE DIFFERENT
We are called to look different to the world and from the world. The Israelites were easily identified by their circumcision. Our circumcised hearts should be obvious.
God pushes us into the light to get us out of the shadows where things look distorted and the temporary seems permanent. But like a leper, we cover and self-protect our blemishes.
Proverbs 28:13, “The one who conceals his sin will not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them will find mercy.”
