CRAZY BUSY – A Mercifully Short Book About a Really Big Problem
by Kevin DeYoung
Know what drives your busyness. Often when we try to do good, our motivation is to look good. Busyness is unavoidable but shouldn’t define your life. Sometimes God strips away everything so that He is all that’s left.
Frantic and Panicked
On the cover of this book is a stick figure with an exclamation point for his head. We are not meant to rush around frantic, panicked and anxious. Know the difference between urgent and important. Take a deep breath and pray.
Compared to other sins, God hates pride the most. Pride is our greatest enemy and humility is our greatest friend. Which one do you want? Pride is a sin we all struggle with but it is still a choice.
Pride is like looking in a telescope the wrong way and you get:
A big me and a little god
Big responsibilities and a little god
Big activities and a little God
Turn it around and focus on the greatness of God. Wholly devote yourself to the Lord.
Be busy for the right reasons
It is ok to be busy. Jesus healed the sick, fed the hungry, taught and skipped sleep to pray. We can’t serve people unless we work hard, long and often, but don’t make it about your service. Instead it should be for the glory of God. God created us for His glory. Not because He needs us, but because He wants us.
Don’t try to do it all
We don’t have to be involved in every responsibility that comes along. Pick and choose and don’t feel obligated. Working and serving in your own strength is exhausting, but Jesus told us that His yoke is easy and His burden is light. Be about the Father’s business; the busyness of the Father, not the busyness of the world.
Be about the busyness of the Father, not the busyness of the world ~ KevinDeYoung #TheHeartoftheAuthor #Podcast Click To TweetFollow Jesus’ example
Christ is our model and He didn’t meet every need. He knew what His ministry was and He did everything God asked Him to do. The things we could do aren’t necessarily the things we should do.
God made our bodies so that we need rest.
“We won’t say no to more craziness until we say yes to Jesus. Don’t choose busyness over blessings.”
