RECOVERING FROM LOSSES IN LIFE
by H. Norman Wright
Who taught you to grieve? We don’t know how to handle loss because we are never taught. How you respond to loss affects you for the rest of your life.
“Grief isn’t the enemy, not facing its existence is.”
Loss compounds over time. Threatened losses are most difficult. Living in limbo makes the loss recurring.
“Trying to mourn loss when death is not involved is a lonely hell.”
When we fail to grieve we never recover. We have to feel the BIG feels.
“Grief’s work is not really complete until we have found some meaning in our grief.”
There is nothing heroic or noble about grief. It hurts, it takes time and it’s hard. Feelings become chaotic when grief flits in and out in waves of pain.
“Grief is normal, the absence of grief is abnormal”
Mourning is necessary to find a new normal. Recovery comes through facing it, but don’t face it alone. Isolation can be deadly.
