THE HIDING PLACE

by Corrie Ten Boom

The Ten Boom family faithfully ministered to those in their community for years. They followed the Lord consistently making prayer and study of the Bible a priority in their lives. When the Nazis occupied Holland and Jews seeking refuge showed up on their doorstep, it was natural for them to take them in. Even after they counted the costs, they selflessly sacrificed their personal safety for the sake of others.

“..the experiences of our lives, when we let God use them, become the mysterious and perfect preparation for the work He will give us to do.”

They didn’t try to change people, they served them. Their compassion and willingness to place their entire family in a situation that ultimately ended in horrific persecution is truly mind blowing. They were truly a living sacrifice.

What they endured is hard to comprehend, their attitude while enduring even harder. When Corrie asked her sister Betsie how long they would be in a concentration camp, she replied,

“Perhaps a long, long time. Perhaps many years. But what better way could there be to spend our lives”

Instead of placing the highest value on personal comfort and safety, she embraced her suffering as an opportunity to reach people for Christ. How could they?

They clung to God’s word, praised Him in all things and ultimately trusted His plan. Even when it cost Betsie her life.

“Thou art my hiding place and my shield. I hope in thy word.”

This book is a MUST read for all.
