Preparing for the Unshakable Women’s Conference and I’m not sure I can speak from the raw places in my heart without crumbling. I suppose the only way to know if you are unshakable is to be shaken. All week I’ve tried to prepare, but I don’t even know what to do for myself. When you don’t know what to do, do what you know to do.
When I was young, my dad and I built card houses. Carefully balancing two flimsy playing cards vertically, we’d hold our breath as we placed another on the “roof.” Breathe out, repeat. Inevitably, the slightest vibration collapsed the whole structure.
“When I was secure, I said, I will never be shaken.” Psalm 30:6 HCSB
Card house life
Feels familiar. I built and built, holding my breath then breathing out and starting over. Then it crumbled, but not with a little vibration, with an earth-shattering blow.
Did I mention I’m supposed to speak on “Unshakable?”
The words have not come easy because I feel like a hypocrite. I don’t mind being honest, but I’m not sure anyone will go away encouraged if I tell the truth.
“Since we are receiving a Kingdom that is unshakable, let us be thankful and please God by worshiping him with holy fear and awe.” Hebrews 12:28 NLT
Along came Jehoshaphat
Coffee in hand, dog at my feet, devotion book* in my lap…
“Jehoshaphat was afraid and turned his attention to seek the Lord, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.” 2 Chronicles 20:3
Jehoshaphat did what all people fighting battles on multiple fronts should do. He shifted his eyes away from the opposition and instead turned his attention to seek the Lord….Focus on God, His promises, His power to fight on your behalf against any army that threatens your borders, no matter how fierce, no matter how loud, no matter how many bases of operation they’re shooting from…shift your gaze upward.” ~ Priscilla Shirer
Seems like I’ve heard said that before
Here I sat, at a loss for words to share because I wasn’t doing what I knew to do.
When you don't know what to do, do what you know to do #Unshakable Click To TweetMany times we know, we just don’t do it. I think they call that, “practice what you preach.”
So I listed in my journal what I know to do. Use my list or make your own.
- Stay in God’s word: read it, write it, memorize it, speak it, think about it, believe it
- Pray: about everything, without ceasing
- Praise God for who He is: nothing more effectively takes your eyes off your circumstances
- Worship: Sing, adore His majesty
- Trust Him: stop manipulating and fretting
- Remember His faithfulness
- Cultivate gratitude in your heart, mind and speech
“Cast your burden on the Lord and He will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be shaken.” Psalm 55:22
I am crumbling. But my God is unshakable. When you don’t know what to do, do what you know to do.
FIX YOUR EYES ON JESUS
THE AUTHOR AND PERFECTER OF YOUR FAITH
I think I’ve heard said that before….
I reviewed Awaken on “The Heart of the Author” podcast. You can listen HERE.*Awaken by Priscilla Shirer
Oh wow. Convicted and inspired! Worshipping with you and praying for you!
Thank you
He is unshakable and He is holding you. God has you even when you crumble, we simply crumble in the palm of His strong hands.
None can pluck you out of His hands. Better to be a crumbled mess in His hand then to appear strong without Him.
The conference is going to be powerful.
You write such beautiful truths in a beautiful way
Ahh, thanks Vickie.
Beautiful message! Yes, fix our eyes on Jesus. Thank you for sharing your heart.
Thanks for sharing my journey
