Why Her?

by

Nicki Koziarz

Have you ever looked at someone else’s life and thought to yourself, “Why her?” or “Must be nice!” or “Why not me?” Most of us have. It’s that competitive spirit that keeps us comparing ourselves to others and fooling ourselves about who we (and they) really are. We either think we’re better than they are, or more often, we see them as a picture of perfection and feel like we’ll never measure up.

But they, measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise. 2 Corinthians 10:12

Author Nicki Koziarz tells the Bible story of Rachel and Leah, a case of sibling rivalry where both were married to the same man and competing for his attention. Rachel was the attractive one that Jacob loved and adored, but Leah was the one bearing him sons, and each was jealous of the other. Instead of focusing on God and His purpose for each of them and being thankful for His blessings, they focused on outdoing each other. As a consequence, their rivalry passed down and divided their future generations.

It’s a trap.

Like Rachel and Leah, it’s easy to fall into the web of competitiveness and rivalry with others and end up stuck there. To avoid its trap, we need to remember that the kingdom of God is not a competition. Everyone has a unique role, and each person’s ministry and strengths look different. Instead of comparing ourselves to each other, or to someone else’s standards, Jesus is our standard. God’s Word is our truth.

We have to make some decisions to believe God and choose His promises, to fight for His promises, and to walk in the truth. When we live life based on the truth of God’s Word, opinions don’t mean much anymore.

Listen in to hear 6 specific truths revealed in the book to overcome the “why her” mentality.
