The words on the page blurred. Like windshield wipers in a blinding rain, my eyelids couldn’t keep up. Three times I opened the cheery, pink book only to put it down for a box of tissues. Okay, real confession, I don’t cry that much so I don’t keep tissues so actually, it was a roll of toilet paper. I know, that’s not a glamorous picture.
What does she know?
I met the author of “Anchored In,” Micah Maddox, through a writing group. She’s an adorable blonde with darling kids, the ability to sing and a husband in ministry. Her tagline for the book is,
“Experience a power-full life in a problem-filled world.”
When I met her in person, I thought, “Yeah right, what does she know about hurt?” Goes to show, you can’t judge a book by it’s cover (although I love this particular cover). I had no idea her story included her young husband’s life-threatening illness or the permanent scars left by a father who decided another woman was more important than his family.
We all have scars
Her words touched raw, tender places in my heart and when I pushed through the blur, I found truth. Truth I desperately needed. This book, for this season, was a lifeline for me.
People bear all kinds of different scars of physical and emotional pain, but open wounds are far more painful. Nevertheless, I keep reliving my emotional pain instead of allowing it to heal. Not only did I identify with negative, repetitive thoughts, I found practical advice on how to reprogram my mind.
“We will find healing when we anchor our thoughts by focusing on our relationship with Jesus and the way He unconditionally loves, pursues, and forgives rather than the broken relationships on this earth.”

Replace don’t replay
“So often I am consumed with what is happening in my life rather than living consumed with God….as long as we replay it, we cannot replace it.”

I needed to quit obsessing, but my thoughts kept rolling around in my head wearing a path that led to nowhere. At least nowhere good. My hurt was becoming my identity; my pain, my personality; my life a theme of suffering. But I am a child of the King and He wants to be my everything. I needed fresh words to bring fresh revelation.
My mailbox could barely contain the hot pink color of the envelope and when I opened “Anchored In” my soul could barely contain the freeing truth. Actually it couldn’t contain it, that’s why I’m sharing it with you.

Eagerly anticipating hearing this interview & reading this book. I was about to cry when I read that you were crying, then of course, burst out laughing when you admitted it was a roll of toilet paper instead of tissues!
