FIND LIGHT IN THE DARKNESS
There’s a lot of complaining and doomsday talk. No wonder, the world is literally shaking and burning. News of fires and floods competes with headlines of crumbling countries far away and the reality of an unseen enemy that burned through the healthcare system at home. No matter what the headlines say, you can find light in the darkness.
Don’t forget
Don’t forget to remember. Remembering is a powerful survival tool, but sometimes we forget to remember and learn from the past. Not only ours, but others too.
“I don’t want you to forget….” 1 Corinthians 1:1a (NLT)
Paul wrote to the church at Corinth and reminded them to remember that God guided and delivered them. Maybe we should take a moment to remember how God guides and delivers us.
Submersed
Whether life is at the highest height or deepest depth, the presence of God guides and delivers. I want to be submersed in it, but I’ll be the first to admit, sometimes it’s hard to find.
O God, submerse me in your presence!
“In the cloud and in the sea…” 1 Corinthians 10:2a (NLT)
Wet or dry?
The Israelites were “baptized as followers of Moses”. I never noticed this in scripture before. After they walked through their impassable obstacle on dry ground to escape their enemy, then were called “baptized”. The root word of immerse is to dip into. What are you dipping in to? You can choose to dip into the darkness of the world, or you can be baptized into the light.
“all of them were baptized…” 1 Corinthians 10:2b (NLT)
Completely immersed
Finding light in the darkness comes from seeking the Lord, being completely immersed in his presence and fixing our eyes on him and his ability to deliver us. We find light in the darkness in the place of submission, where we down our lives to live in Christ.
There is peace in a world of chaos because we know God is still on His throne.
Are you living in the light of that truth? Because that’s what a dark world needs to see.
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Matt 5:16 (KJV)
Do you see darkness in the world or the glory of God?
Don’t point others to doom and gloom; point to God’s glory and grace. Where you look determines the amount of light you reflect.
Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in his wonderful face
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of his glory and grace
