Forty-nine steps from the door, seventy-seven steps down the boardwalk, sixty-two steps to the water’s edge. Maybe that doesn’t sound like much of an accomplishment for you, but it was a major victory for me.
Revelation 14:2, “And I heard a voice from heaven like the roar of many waters and like the sound of loud thunder.” ESV
Initially, I declined the invitation. I wasn’t up to it, but when my legs began to get stronger, I reconsidered. I’m so glad I did. There is no place like the beach. The sound of the waves restores my soul.
Psalm 29:3, “The Lord’s voice can be heard over the sea. The voice of our glorious Lord God is like thunder over the great ocean.” ERV
WATER
Since I have to stay cool, I put my chair into the water. The rhythm of the waves lulled me like a rocking chair; the tide in tune with the universe. The voice of God is described as “like the roar of mighty waters.”
Ezekiel 43:2, “And I saw the glory of the God of Israel coming from the east. His voice sounded like the roar of mighty waters, and the earth shone with his glory.” HCSB
The sound of rushing water from the ocean, a roaring river or a waterfall drowns out every other noise. Water is powerful and fierce. Water threatens to overwhelm and sweep me away. The power of water is hard to restrain.
Isaiah 43:2, “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you.” NKJV
SATISFACTION
Nothing satisfies like water. Our need is accentuated in the dry places, in the desert.
Do you ever wonder why others have found freedom in Christ?
Psalm 42:1-3, “A white-tailed deer drinks from the creek; I want to drink God, deep draughts of God. I’m thirsty for God-alive. I wonder, ‘Will I ever make it-arrive and drink in God’s presence?’ I’m on a diet of tears- tears for breakfast, tears for supper. All day long people knock at my door, pestering, ‘Where is this God of yours?'” MSG
THIRSTY
In a dry and dusty land, I am thirsty. Sometimes, I look elsewhere to satisfy my thirst. Ultimately, nothing else fulfills my longing. Jesus invited the woman at the well to receive living water so she would never thirst again.
John 4:10, “Jesus answered and said to her, ‘If you knew the gift of God and who it is who says to you, ‘Give me a drink, ‘you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.'” NASB
UNQUENCHED
Are you drinking and drinking and still parched? Some thirst more for acceptance, others for love, affirmation or purpose. Sometimes we simply need to be needed. Then our own need is cavernous.
Isaiah 43:19, “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” KJV
LIVING WATER
Physical birth involves water, so does spiritual birth. Baptism is a picture of new birth. Water cleanses away the filth and grime and makes us clean. Our sins are made clean by the blood of the lamb and Christ makes us holy through His word.
Ephesians 5:25-26, “Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word.” NIV
Drink my friend, drink of the living water. And then go to the beach if you can!
Do you love the sound of water? Tell me your favorite place to hear what sounds like God’s voice.
Amen! What a great story of success.
I’m with you, I love the beach. And living in CA, we have the opportunity to visit often. Coronado Bay and La Jolla Shores are two of my favorite places to be. You are so right, long walks on the beach are an incredible way to connect with our creator.
“Drink my friend, drink of the living water. And then go to the beach if you can!”
What a great line. And hopefully our family will be able to put it into action tomorrow 🙂 School resumes soon, and it won’t be long before were all caught up in the hustle and bustle of life. Thanks for the excellent reminder that there is so much value in getting away and enjoying His awesome creation!
Ok now I am jealous. I love Coronado
As always, a beautiful uplifting message, and so glad you got to put your toes in the water… And listen to those waves!
Thank you. It was wonderful
Beautiful uplifting message as always. I am so thankful for your post.
Thank you and God bless
I do somewhat understand your struggles with each step you take. I have RA and Fibro and 3 years ago I felt I would never be able to work again and every step I took was painful. Thru lots of prayer and medication, I am working at a different job and love it. My favorite place to put my feet in the sand would be anywhere in the Caribbean. But, locally I love to go to Destin, Fl. Hope your days get better and better! I enjoy reading your posts. Thank you for taking the time to share with us.
Thanks for commenting. Glad you are doing better. I love Destin
