My jaw went slack. Controlling the tremor in my fingers was easier than controlling the tremor in my brain. I hope this never happens to you. I managed to tap the edit icon. “Delete post, are you sure?” The force of my right index finger dented the touch screen. Yes! I am one hundred percent, absolutely, positively sure.
%#&!
The word that flew out of my mouth wasn’t even a PG-13 word, but it didn’t exactly qualify as wholesome either.
Colossians 4:5, “Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.” ESV
TAKE THREE
I stepped off my porch and stood in front of my spectacular azaleas to record a video on my computer. As a recovering perfectionist, I accepted the shaky video after about four or five takes. I saved one clip on my computer to post on my Facebook page a few days later. Normally I don’t watch my videos or listen to my radio broadcasts after they go live, but for some reason I pushed play. My self watched myself calmly proclaim how God is evident in creation. I didn’t notice any major bobbles, but my monologue stopped mid-sentence as I threw out a slang word and shut off the recording.
Ephesians 4:29, “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” NIV
Yeah, you didn’t need to hear that. No benefit whatsoever.
IT WAS THE WRONG VIDEO
I think I know what Paul meant. The video I posted was not the video I wanted to post. No, the video I didn’t want to post, that is the video I posted. If you need help with that reference, you’ll have to ask.
I still can’t believe I posted it to Facebook for all the world to see. My self ought to watch myself more closely. I think I will be more careful in the future, not only with my recorded words, but with the ones I speak in private. After all, what would you think of me? What would people think of you if every word was recorded and posted on social media?
Matthew 12:36, “I tell you that on the day of judgement people will have to account for every careless word they speak.” HCSB
SORRY
It was only up for a few seconds. If you saw it, I’m sorry. If you didn’t, I’m really sorry. You missed your chance. I hope it never happens to you, but I’m glad it happened to me. It made me realize I need the power of the Holy Spirit to temper my speech.
James 3:8, “But no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.” NIV
If you don’t follow me on Facebook you might be missing out. I posted a new video and I promise, I’ll try to edit better in the future; publicly and privately.
Oh gosh I missed that slip up!!! Glad you caught it before it went viral..lol.
On a serious note it’s easy to let our tongues revert back to the flesh talking…I just haven’t done it on camera…yet!
I probably deserved it
For starters, I love your transparency, Vicky. Secondly, I’ve had those same thoughts. What if so-in-so heard me say those words? I have been pondering those very verses as I’m working on some devotional submissions this week. I missed your video but you know i’m going to beg you tell me what you said the next time I see you!
It really has made me think more about what I say when I think no one is listening
I missed the video. But you missed what I never recorded. But God knows and the good news is He has already pressed delete and helps us as we live under His covering!!! Praise Him we hate our “bloopers” and can, through Christ, live a life worthy of recording!
I love that HE presses delete! As far as the east is from the west
I know the reference well.. WHY, OH WHY do I do the very things I don’t want to do, and the things I want to do.. I don’t. (it’s a life verse for me :/) Love this post.. My speech needs some cleaning up (seasoning) too. Thanks for the reminder.
I merely remind myself. Thanks
Vickie. If it makes you feel better, I recorded a video on my iPhone 3 times, deleted twice, and then discovered the 3rd one was too long to upload to face book! I couldn’t edit it because I couldn’t get the selection slider in the right place. So I gave up because by that time my iPhone was telling me I had run out of space!, ?
I get it!
