Spinning thoughts, talking heads, scrolling posts – my mind stuffed with chaos. Everything is hard and life is crazy. When the world spins out of control, lay it down, you were never in control anyway.
Hanging on to a world falling apart is a hopeless waste of effort. Hard work and determination can take you far, but can’t fix what’s broken or prevent this change of plans.
Plan to change
Planning is my jam. Making lists creates a sense of accomplishment and filling the calendar feels like life on purpose. You know the old adage, “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.” Guess what? Sometimes you fail anyway.
Failing
Illness was never on my agenda, neither was divorce. I’m guessing none of us planned for a pandemic. Social isolation drives us to Facebook where we learn about controversies that probably don’t even exist. Everlasting news tells about a universe coming apart at the seams. If that doesn’t interrupt your plans, I don’t know what does. Plastic retail therapy or another snack never fixes the boredom, anxiety or disappointment.
When the world spins out of control
When the world spins out of control, you need to know the One who is in control, because that was never you. God uses this interrupted life to teach us who we are and who we aren’t. What have you discovered about yourself?
Don’t give it another spin
Where is your focus? Sometimes, we keep spinning the crazy…
Complaining
“Do everything without complaining and arguing.” Philippians 2:14 (NLT)
Conspiracy
“Don’t call everything a conspiracy, like they do, and don’t live in dread of what frightens them.” Isaiah 8:12 (NLT)
Controversy
“Again I say, don’t get involved in foolish, ignorant arguments that only start fights.” 2 Timothy 2:23 (NLT)
God is on His throne
Circumstances and chatter steal our focus and therefore our peace. What demands your attention? Instead of grasping for control, spend some time worshiping God, who is still on His throne. I promise He’s worth the attention.
Crushing worldly things in our grip leaves us with crumbs. Let go and hold on to the strength Christ offers.
When the world spins out of control, let it go, lay it down and quit trying to run the universe, that’s God’s job. He is always in control.
